ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਘਰੁ ੨    ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਮੀਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਧੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ। ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖੋ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੋਲ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ। (ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੋ) , ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।ਹੇ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ (ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ) ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਹੈ।੩।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਿਲਾ। ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੧।੭।JAITSREE, FOURTH MEHL, SECOND HOUSE:ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ਰਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਡਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਦੇਹ ਗ੍ਰੇਹ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥ ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮੈ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਾਲ ਅਵਧ ਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਅਜਾਮਲ ਗਜ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਪਤਿਤ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਨੇ ॥ ਤੇਊ ਉਤਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲੀਨੇ ॥੨॥ ਸੂਕਰ ਕੂਕਰ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਤਊ ਲਾਜ ਨ ਆਈ ॥ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਛਾਡਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥੩॥ ਤਜਿ ਭਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਿਖੇਧ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹੀ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਨ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੪॥੫॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ। ਸਦਾ ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਜੀਵ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਵਹੁਟੀ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਸਰੀਰ, ਘਰ, ਦੌਲਤ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੌਤ-ਰੂਪ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲਾ ਸਮਾ ਆਇਆ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ।੧।

ਅਜਾਮਲ, ਗਜ, ਗਨਿਕਾ-ਇਹ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਭੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ।੨।

(ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ!) ਤੂੰ ਸੂਰ, ਕੁੱਤੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਹੁਣ) ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ (ਤੂੰ ਅਜੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ) । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਉਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ?।੩।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕੰਮ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਮਨਾਹੀ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਵਹਿਮ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਬੀਰ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਬਣਾ।੪।੫।

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ: ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੋ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਬੜੇ ਬੜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਭੀ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡ ਦੇ ਭੁਲੇਖਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਪਵੋ।

ENGLISH TRANSLATION 
Remember the Lord, remember the Lord, remember the Lord in meditation, O Siblings of Destiny.
Without remembering the Lord's Name in meditation, a great many are drowned. ||1||Pause||
Your spouse, children, body, house and possessions - you think these will give you peace.
But none of these shall be yours, when the time of death comes. ||1||

Ajaamal, the elephant, and the prostitute committed many sins,
but still, they crossed over the world-ocean, by chanting the Lord's Name. ||2||
You have wandered in reincarnation, as pigs and dogs - did you feel no shame?

Forsaking the Ambrosial Name of the Lord, why do you eat poison? ||3||
Abandon your doubts about do's and dont's, and take to the Lord's Name.

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਾਡਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡੀ ਲੋਕ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਧੂਪ ਧੁਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਬਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਪਏ, ਉਹ (ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਲੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਣਾ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ 'ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ' ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਰਨ ਤਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੰਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਗਿਆਨ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ।੩।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ।੪।੧੨।੧੪।

Meaning: O brother! The God to whom this body is given to us, it is life and wealth, should be praised for eight hours (at all times). 1. Stay. (O brother! The people of Karma Kandi worship the gods and goddesses, burn incense and light lamps before them, but) the person on whom the Guru is blessed with great fortune, that person (with incense lamp etc.) Takes the shelter of God, always resting his head at God's feet, worshiping God is the action of 'Dhup Deep' for that person. 1.

Hey brother! God joins His servants in His devotion by His grace, removes all their sufferings from birth to death and merges them in His feet. Joy remains within those who sing the praises of the All-Blessing God. 2. Hey brother! One should remain in the company of the Guru and chant the name of God, this is the religious act and this is the real knowledge. Hey brother! Make the feet of God, the knower of everyone's heart and the creator of the world, a ship and cross this world-sea. 3.

Hey brother! Those whom the Lord protects by His mercy, the (Kamadika) claws of fearsome foes flee beyond them. O Nanak! Whatever man God has favored, that man never loses his life in gambling (of vices). 4.12.14.

  ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਛੰਤ    ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਾਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਗਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਵਰੁ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਚਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗੈ ਕਬ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਤੇ ॥ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਖੀਏ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਤੇ ॥ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਠਾਢੀ ਕਰਉ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਵਨ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੈਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ 

ਭਇਆ ਸਮਾਹੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਵਿਸਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਖੋਜੀ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਪਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੇ ਕਥਹਿ ਅਕਥ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲਾਹਾ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥੨॥ 

ਸਾਹਾ ਅਟਲੁ ਗਣਿਆ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੰਜੋਗੋ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਸੁਖਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਭਇਆ ਗਇਆ ਵਿਜੋਗੋ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਤ ਆਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਏ ਬਣੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਜਾਞੀਆਂ ॥ ਮਿਲਿ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਏ ਸਹਜਿ ਢੋਏ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਉਪਜੀ ਮਾਞੀਆ ॥ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗੋ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਸੰਤਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਜੋਗੋ ॥੩॥

ਭਵਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੜਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਸਭਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਅੜਾ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਜਾਗੀ ਸਗਲ ਇਛਾ ਪੁੰਨੀਆ ॥ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਕੰਤ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥ ਆਨੰਦ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਵਜਹਿ ਵਾਜੇ ਅਹੰ ਮਤਿ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਵਿਆਂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ-ਢੰਗ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

(ਜਦੋਂ) ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ (ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਉਤਾਵਲੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ) ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੋਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇਗਾ। (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਇਹ ਉੱਤਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ-ਜੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪੁੱਛਦੀ ਹੈ-) ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ, ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਦੱਸ) ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਖਲੋਤੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ।

ਨਾਨਕ (ਭੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਲੜ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹਾਝਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਧੀਰਜ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ (ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ) ਖੋਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਅਕੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ, ਮਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਦੋਵੇਂ) ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ। (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿੱਤ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਖੱਟੀ (ਵਜੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਆਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼) ।੨।

 (ਕੁੜੀ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਦਾ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲਾੜੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਞੀ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਲੜਕੀ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਢੁਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਲੜਕੀ ਦੇ ਸਨ-ਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਾਂਞੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਕਈ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਖੁਆਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਾਂਧਾ ਲਾਵਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਲੜਕੇ ਲੜਕੀ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) । (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਖੁੰਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੁਹੂਰਤ ਸੋਧਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ) ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ (ਵਿਆਹ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉਸਦਾ) ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਅਸਚਰਜ ਜਾਂਞੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਸੰਤ ਜਨ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਲੜਕੀ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ) ਢੁਕਾਉ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਵੇਂ,) ਲੜਕੀ ਦੇ ਸਨਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) । (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਤਾਣੇ-ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਾਂਞੀਆਂ ਮਾਂਞੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਛਕਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਭੋਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰੂ-ਸੰਤ ਨੇ (ਸਰਨ ਪਈ) ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।੩।

 (ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਆ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਸਰੀਰ-) ਭਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਹਿਰਦਾ-) ਧਰਤੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਇੱਛਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਦੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਮਤਾ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਕੰਤ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੪।੧।

The time of rejoicing has come; I sing of my Lord God. I have heard of my Imperishable Husband Lord, and happiness fills my mind. My mind is in love with Him; when shall I realize my great good fortune, and meet with my Perfect Husband? If only I could meet the Lord of the Universe, and be automatically absorbed into Him; tell me how, O my companions! Day and night, I stand and serve my God; how can I attain Him? Prays Nanak, have mercy on me, and attach me to the hem of Your robe, O Lord. || 1 || Joy has come! I have purchased the jewel of the Lord. Searching, the seeker has found the Lord with the Saints. ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ। ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੱਸ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।੧।

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬਲ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਮੈਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸੁਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੨।

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਵੇਖ, (ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ, (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ, ਲੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਗ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਸ਼ੇਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਕਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਥਾਂ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਅਜੇਹੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਡਰ ਭਰਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਕਰ।੩।

ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਵੇਖੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਾਕਤ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕਰਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਰਤੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਹੇਠੋਂ (ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਉੱਪਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੧।੧੨।

If it pleases You, please save me, O my Lord and Master; without You, I have no other at all. || 1 || Pause || You alone are my strength, and my Court, O my Lord and Master; unto You alone I pray. There is no other place where I can offer my prayers; I can tell my pains and pleasures only to You. || 2 || Water is locked up in the earth, and fire is locked up in wood. Serve your Guru forever, and chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. With each and every breath, worship the Lord, Har, Har, in adoration, and the anxiety of your mind will be dispelled. || 1 || O my mind, chant the Name of God. You shall be blessed with peace, poise and pleasure, and you shall find the immaculate place. || 1 || Pause || In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, redeem your mind, and and adore the Lord, twenty-four hours a day. Sexual desire, anger and egotism will be dispelled, and all troubles shall end. || 2 || The Lord Master is immovable, immortal and inscrutable; seek His Sanctuary. Worship in adoration the lotus feet of the Lord in your heart, and center your consciousness lovingly on Him alone. || 3 || The Supreme Lord God has shown mercy to me, and He Himself has forgiven me. ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੁ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਖ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ, ਅਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸੁੱਚਾ ਰੱਖ ਸਕੇ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ, ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ, ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖ।੩।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲਿਆ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਪਾਪ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ।੪।੨।੨੮।

  ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਾਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ ਅਪਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਿਉ ਹੀ ਜਗੁ ਫਾਂਧਿਓ ਕੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸੁਖ ਮੈ ਆਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੈਠਤ ਰਹਤ ਚਹੂ ਦਿਸਿ ਘੇਰੈ ॥ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਪਰੀ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੰਗੁ ਛਾਡਿਤ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਨੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਹਿਤੁ ਜਾ ਸਿਉ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਤ ਸੰਗ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਹੰਸ ਤਜੀ ਇਹ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੨॥ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ਬਨਿਓ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾਇਓ ॥ ਅੰਤ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਕੋਊ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥੩॥੧੨॥੧੩੯॥ ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲੈ, (ਕਿ) ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ (ਤੋੜ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਥੀ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਬਣਦਾ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ! ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ (ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ) ਕਈ ਯਾਰ ਦੋਸਤ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਪਾਸ) ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਚੌਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਘੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ) ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਫਿਰ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ।੧। ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਘਰ ਦੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਭੀ) , ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਬੜਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਸਦਾ (ਖਸਮ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਹੀ ਵੇਲੇ (ਪਤੀ ਦਾ) ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ) ਪਰੇ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮਰ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ ਮਰ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ।੨। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ) ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਮਦਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।੩।੧੨।੧੩੯। SORAT’H, NINTH MEHL: O dear friend, know this in your mind. The world is entangled in its own pleasures; no one is for anyone else. || 1 || Pause || In good times, many come and sit together, surrounding you on all four sides. But when hard times come, they all leave, and no one comes near you. || 1 || Your wife, whom you love so much, and who has remained ever attached to you, runs away crying, “Ghost! Ghost!”, as soon as the swan-soul leaves this body. || 2 || This is the way they act — those whom we love so much. At the very last moment, O Nanak, no one is any use at all, except the Dear Lord. || 3 || 12 || 139 ||

BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:Bronze is bright and shiny, but when it is rubbed, its blackness appears. Washing it, its impurity is not removed, even if it is washed a hundred times. || 1 || They alone are my friends, who travel along with me; and in that place, where the accounts are called for, they appear standing with me. || 1 || Pause || There are houses, mansions and tall buildings, painted on all sides; but they are empty within, and they crumble like useless ruins. || 2 || The herons in their white feathers dwell in the sacred shrines of pilgrimage. They tear apart and eat the living beings, and so they are not called white. || 3 || My body is like the simmal tree; seeing me, other people are fooled. Its fruits are useless — just like the qualities of my body. || 4 || The blind man is carrying such a heavy load, and his journey through the mountains is so long. My eyes can see, but I cannot find the Way. How can I climb up and cross over the mountain? || 5 || What good does it do to serve, and be good, and be clever? O Nanak, contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall be released from bondage. || 6 || 1 || 3 ||ਅਰਥ: ਮੈਂ ਕੈਂਹ (ਦਾ) ਸਾਫ਼ ਤੇ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਵਾਂ (ਭਾਂਡਾ) ਘਸਾਇਆ (ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਮਾੜੀ ਮਾੜੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਸਿਆਹੀ (ਲੱਗ ਗਈ) । ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਕੈਂਹ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਧੋਵਾਂ (ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਾਂ) ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ) ਧੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਅੰਦਰਲੀ) ਜੂਠ (ਕਾਲਖ) ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।੧।ਮੇਰੇ ਅਸਲ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਉਹੀ ਹਨ ਜੋ (ਸਦਾ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣ, ਤੇ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚੱਲਣ, (ਅਗਾਂਹ) ਜਿਥੇ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਅਝੱਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਕਣ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਿਸਾਬ ਦੇਣ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਸਕਣ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।ਜੇਹੜੇ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਚਿੱਤਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ, ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋਣ, (ਉਹ ਢਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ) ਢੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ।੨।ਬਗਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਖੰਭ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵੱਸਦੇ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗਲੋਂ) ਘੁੱਟ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਖਾ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੁਥਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ।੩।(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖ (ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ, (ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਤੋਤੇ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦੇ) ਉਹ ਫਲ (ਤੋਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।੪।ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੇ (ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਅਗਾਂਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ) ਬੜਾ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਲਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਹ-ਖਹਿੜਾ ਲੱਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ (ਪਹਾੜੀ ਤੇ) ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂ?।੫।ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦਾਂ, ਲੋਕ-ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ। (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ (-ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਸਕੇਂਗਾ।੯।੧।੩।

 ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਧਨ ਜੇ ਭਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥ ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕੰਤੈ ਰਾਵੇ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ 

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੁਗ ਚਾਹੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਹੋਵੇ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੀ ਫਿਰੇ। ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਜੋ ਇਸ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲਾਅ ਸਕੇ) । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਧਨ ਬਾਲੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲਾ ਵੇਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲਾ ਵੇਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗੀ। ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਖਸਮ-ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਂਗੀ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਏਗਾ! ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋਇਆਂ) ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।੨।

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਧਨ ਬਾਲੜੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ॥ ਸਚਾ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਲਇਆ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ (ਗਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਹਲ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।੩।

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਬਾਲੀ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਕਰਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਵੈ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੩॥੪॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ। ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ, ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਉੱਘੜ ਪਿਆ। ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਸੇਜ ਆਨੰਦ-ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਸੁਹਜ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ।

ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹੈ।੪।੩।੪।

Suhi Mahla 3 || In all four ages, if there is wealth, there is no Ram without a true Guru. The unchanging king always worships Hari without a third person, there is no Ram. There is no one without a third person, there is only one true Guru, the Gurumukh alone is known. Wealth is gathered, the mind is accepted by the Guru. Having found the True Guru, there is no liberation without a third person. Nanak, the mind is accepted by the husband, the wife, the husband, the husband. ||1 ||

Meaning: O brother! No matter what the age may be, without the Guru (taking refuge), there is no union with the Lord, even if the wife wanders in the four ages. The command of that Lord-husband is unchangeable (that union is achieved only through the Guru). Apart from Him, there is no one else equal to Him (who can change this command). O brother! Apart from that Lord, there is no one like Him. That Lord Himself is the one who is eternal. The living being who lives in the presence of the Guru forms a deep bond with that one. When, following the Guru's advice, the mind of the living being becomes absorbed (in the remembrance of God), then the living being is united with the Lord-husband.

O brother! When the Guru is found, then only is the Lord attained (the Guru alone instills the Name of the Lord in the heart of the living being, and without the Name of the Lord there is no liberation (from the bonds of Maya). O Nanak! If the mind is absorbed in the remembrance of the Lord, then the living being enjoys the union of the Lord, and joy remains in her heart. 1.

Satguru sevi dhan baladiye Har Varu paveh soi Ram. Sada hoveh sohagani fiir meila vesu na hoi Ram. Fiir meila vesu na hoi Gurmukh understands no ego mar and recognizes. Karni kar kamavai sabad samavai antar eko ki zaini. Gurmukh prabhu You will attain the Lord-husband. You will become a devotee forever, and then there will be no separation from the Lord-husband! A rare woman, walking on the path shown by the Guru, understands this (that through the Guru, she has attained union with the Lord) and then there will be no separation from Him. That woman, having removed her ego (from within herself), maintains communion with the Lord. That woman keeps doing the right things (of remembering the Lord), remains absorbed in the Guru's word, and keeps her identity with the one Lord in her heart. O Nanak! The woman who lives in the presence of the Guru keeps remembering the Name of her Lord day and night, and (in the world and the hereafter) she gets eternal respect. That woman always remembers her Lord-husband who is everywhere. 2.

What does the Guru do, O Lord, bring forth wealth, O Lord, God unites with Ram. Hari is the color of love. May the beloved find happiness in Ram. May the beloved find happiness in the world. May the true smoke be consumed day and night. May the true smoke be consumed. May the giver of happiness, the word of God, be known by the heart. Nanak recognizes the female and the male, the Gurmati, may the Lord be found. 3. Meaning: O ignorant soul! Do the work told by the Guru. The Guru unites you with the Lord-husband. The woman who is imbued with the color of love of the Lord, enjoys spiritual joy by meeting the beloved Lord. By meeting the beloved Lord, she enjoys spiritual joy, remains ever-absorbed in the Lord, that ever-absorbed Lord is seen by her residing in all places. That woman remains intoxicated in the remembrance of the ever-absorbed Lord, this is the eternal (spiritual) adornment that is ever-absorbing. She keeps doing it day and night. By joining the Guru's word, that woman attains communion with the Lord who gives all happiness, keeps Him in her embrace, and chants Him at all times. O Nanak! That woman finds the palace of the Lord, and by following the Guru's advice, she attains union with the Lord. 3.

The one who has attained wealth, I have met the Lord Ram. The light of the Guru has dimmed, the Lord Ravi has remained everywhere, the Lord Ravi has remained everywhere, and the Lord has settled in all places, and has written the words of the past. The bed is comfortable, my Lord has made me a true cigarette. The desire is pure, the ego has lost its luster, and the truth of the Guru's religion has been absorbed. Nanak, having met the Lord, has found a new name and treasure. 4.3.4.

Meaning: O brother! The woman who has attained union with the Lord Ram from the very heart of the temple, The Lord Himself united her to His feet. The light shone in the heart of that living being that God is present everywhere. That living being settled in her mind the Lord who is pervading everywhere, the letter written in the previous birth (on her forehead) appeared. That living being began to please the beloved Lord, her heart-seat became full of joy, she made the constant meditation of the Lord's Name the charm (of her life).

The living being who, taking the advice of the Guru, is absorbed in the constant Name of the Lord, she removes the filth of ego (from within her), she becomes one of a pure life. O Nanak! Say-) the Creator Himself united her, she has obtained the Name of God, which is for her the nine treasures of creation.4.3.4.
